“Grianan” Tralee Bay Cottage is located in a secluded, peaceful country lane, just a 5- minute stroll from Tralee Bay beach and nature reserve. The cottage is set in an acre of spectacular gardens, which are a veritable oasis of plants, verdant grass and an ornamental pond. There is also a decking area with a hot tub in which you can relax and appreciate the gardens. There is ample parking and ramp access into the house, which is wheelchair friendly with wide doorways and a large wet room.

The cottage offers three spacious, comfortable bedrooms: a master bedroom and two twin rooms. The master bedroom faces south-east and has sliding doors that open out onto the garden – perfect for catching the early morning sunshine. Each room is equipped with a 32” Freeview TV. There is one bathroom (with combined bath/shower) and a wetroom with a hoist for the shower.

In the living room you can enjoy the warmth of the log fire while relaxing on one of the large leather sofas. For your entertainment, the 40″ flat screen TV comes with a full Sky package; a DVD player is also available.

From the large oak table in the dining room, you can enjoy the breathtaking views over the Salen and nature reserve, which are set against the stunning backdrop of the Morvern Peninsula – snow-capped in winter and lush green in summer. On a clear day, you can see as far as Glencoe. The kitchen opens out on to the dining area with its spectacular views and has all the necessary modern appliances: double electric oven, hob, microwave, large fridge freezer, coffee machine, and washing machine. It is also fully equipped for all your self-catering needs.

Meadowsweet is a 3 bedroom bungalow in Argyll that can accommodate 5 people. There’s a double, twin and single bedroom. The twin bedroom has a standard single bed and an electric, profiling one. There’s no ceiling hoist but they do provide an Oxford Mini 140 portable hoist. There’s two bathrooms, one of which has a wheel in shower with shower chair, a tilt in space chair can be provided if required. The lounge has an electric riser/recliner chair and a ramp takes you into the conservatory.

There are three bedrooms in the property. The first has a super king-size double bed, which can also be made into two singles (please advise when booking.) The second bedroom comes equipped with an electric Theraposture profiling bed with two rails on each side which can be raised or lowered. There is also a battery powered Oxford Mini 140 hoist – guests must please bring their own sling. There is an additional single bed in this room. The third and final bedroom is a small room with a single bed, slightly narrower than a standard single (2’6”) but the normal length.

The property has two shower rooms. One is a wheel-in wet room, with two grab rails, and a stool in the shower area. There is a Freeway T80 tilt-in-space shower wheelchair with lidded commode. The wet room is equipped with an accessible basin and a raised toilet with a two drop-down support rails. The other shower room has a shower, basin and toilet. Please note this second bathroom is not accessible for a wheelchair user.

The accessible property is well equipped, creating that ‘home from home’ feeling. The living room is spacious and contains a wood burning stove, TV with BluRay DVD and a CD player. We have WiFi and BT TV. The living room also features a double sofa, matching chair and a double-motor riser-recliner chair. Adjacent to the living room is the dining room which has a table seating 4-5 people (which can also be extended to seat 6+ people). The modern well-equipped kitchen features all the essentials you will need during your stay.

The conservatory boasts wonderful views of Dunadd Fort. There are 2 shallow steps into the conservatory, and there is a folding suitcase ramp which can be put in place to enable a wheelchair user to go into the conservatory through the double doors that open into it from the house. The patio can be accessed by a wheelchair user from the path at the front of the house.

TRALEE BAY CHALET

Located at Tralee Bay Holiday Park on the West coast of Scotland, this chalet is owned by MND Scotland and accommodates 7. There’s a bedroom with a fully adjustable bed and a ceiling track hoist running from the bedroom into the en-suite wet room. The wet room has a wheel in shower with tilt in space shower chair and a Clos-o-mat automatic toilet.

The chalet is fully adapted to meet the needs of those with disabilities, including Motor Neurone Disease, although it is available to anyone who wishes to use it. If you are affected by MND you will receive a discount, and may also be to apply for a ‘Time Out Grant’ from MND Scotland to put towards the costs.

Tralee Bay is a Scottish Tourist Board 5 Star Holiday Park. Facilities include a children’s play area, mini golf, launderette, nearby forest walks, and Tralee’s popular Rally Karting Centre is close by.

The holiday park lies adjacent to the beach at Ardmucknish Bay and it offers views down the Firth of Lorn, with the island of Kerrera and Mull filling the horizon. You can drive your van or car on to the beach for easier access; just turn right out of Tralee Bay Holiday Park and drive along the road about 300 metres and take the second right onto a small track road. There is a gate to go through which must be opened and shut again once the car is through. The path then leads to a small gravel ‘car park’ which drifts on to beach.
