Avon Tyrrell is a disabled holiday and activity centre with a selection of self-catering and half board accessible lodges of different sizes that can accommodate between 6 and 14 people.

We have 7 lodges nestled in the woodland landscape making the perfect accommodation for families, friends or groups. The New Forest is an incredible place to spend a weekend so book one of our lodges and enjoy a short break.

We have 6, 12 and 14 berth lodges available, each with a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom(s) and a TV lounge area complete with TV and DVD player. Open plan living, modern furnishings and central heating make these lodges the best choice for comfort, enabling you to relax and enjoy your New Forest break. Depending on availability and group size our lodges are available either as self-catering, part board or on a full board basis. 

To ensure that all guests can enjoy Avon Tyrrell, we have a selection of specially adapted equipment to accommodate those with disabilities. Lodges include; wet rooms, shower chairs, fitted rails, emergency cords, ramps, hoists and wide access doors.

The 12 berth lodge Black Firs has a ceiling track hoist that runs from the bedroom into the en-suite wet room which has a level access shower. A portable hoist and a static shower chair can be provided without charge.  We have a number of all-terrain wheelchairs that can be hired and assistance dogs are welcome.

ELLWOOD COTTAGES

Located in the heart of beautiful rural Dorset in the peaceful hamlet of Woolland, Ellwood Cottages are outstanding conversions of three single level traditionally built barns, in a courtyard setting. Each property has 2 bedrooms and sleeps between 3 and 6 people.

Everywhere is fully wheelchair accessible. There are no steps and all doors have 760mm clear opening. Each property has an electric, fully profiling single bed in one of the bedrooms and a mobile hoist can be provided to use free of charge. All showers are wet-room style, a wheeled shower chair can be provide, kitchens have accessible hob and sink with front controls and 850mm wide x 350mm deep and 700mm high clear space under for wheelchair access. Light switches are at 1100mm and electrical sockets at 900mm. Push-pull doors for easy opening and closing rather than awkward handles to be turned.

The splash pool is 6.0 metres x 3.0 metres x 1.25metres deep and the pool water is kept at a comfortable temperature – circa 30oC. There are two changing rooms, each fully wheelchair accessible with wet room shower and side access WC facilities. There are guide rails all around the pool at the water line and easy access steps. There is an Oxford Dipper hoist – please be sure to bring your own harness/sling.

KINGSBERE ANNEXE

Kingsbere Annexe is a stylish ground-floor annexe purpose-built for a powerchair user and completely renovated for use as holiday accommodation in 2023. The annexe is a 5-minute level walk to the beach and has level access/interior, ceiling hoist, profiling bed, wide doorways, accessible height switches and sockets, and luxury wet room.

Kingsbere Annexe has a spacious open-plan design. The sleeping/living area has a single profiling bed with side rails, an X-Y ceiling hoist, a double Next sofa bed, a wall-mounted Amazon Fire Smart TV and remote control mood lighting. The modern kitchen overlooks the front garden and has a full-size fridge, microwave, sink, Nespresso coffee machine, a pull-out extendable dining table seating three and storage space. Guests can enjoy complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits.

Kingsbere Annexe has a spacious luxury wet room with a step-free shower, suction grab-rails, a wheeled shower/WC chair, a wheel-under washbasin, and a static WC seat/frame. Guests can loan a leg support/raiser for the profiling bed, foot support, and a mobility scooter is available to hire.

Lookout Cottage is a stunning wheelchair-accessible barn conversion with level access/interior, accessible kitchen with rise-and-fall/wheel-under worktops, sink and hob, twin profiling beds, and a ceiling hoist leading into an accessible en-suite wet-room. The entire site is step-free and guests can enjoy a riverside wheelchair-accessible boardwalk.

Lookout Cottage has a spacious twin/double bedroom with vaulted ceiling, exposed beams, two single profiling beds, large windows overlooking the pretty courtyard, and a ceiling hoist leading directly into the en-suite wet room. The modern accessible wet-room has a step-free shower and a wheel-under washbasin. Lookout Cottage has a further two large bedrooms, both with vaulted ceilings and exposed beams. One bedroom has a king-size bed and the second can be configured as a king-size or twin bedroom. The cottage also has a spacious family bathroom with bath, overhead shower, washbasin and WC.

The cottage has a beautiful open-plan living/dining/kitchen area with vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, and cosy-woodburning stove and has spectacular woodland views. The open-plan space has a living room with stylish sofa, armchairs, flat-screen TV, and wood-burning stove, and a dining table with free-standing seating. The luxury accessible kitchen has rise-and-fall/wheel-under worktops, sink and hob, ‘slide-and-hide’ oven door, and accessible cupboards.

STELLA – WEYMOUTH BAY HOLIDAY PARK

Accommodation that suits the family, and offers more of what is needed for children and adults with complex needs, for whom “wheelchair access”, is just not enough. A WCF Willerby Rio Gold sited at Haven’s Weymouth Bay Holiday Park in Dorset, with on site facilities to keep everyone amused during their break.

Access is via a ramp at all caravans, up to a decked terrace. Entry into the accommodation is through a door of a minimum 90cm wide and we also provide a threshold ramp stored just inside the main entrance. There is smooth, level access throughout, with sliding doors to bedrooms and wet rooms.

For bathing there is a large wet room, thermostatic controlled “super powerful” shower with extra long hose and a wheel in shower chair.  There are fixed hand rails in the shower area, and by the sink, with 1 fixed and one drop down rail by the toilet.

The master bedrooms are larger than you would normally find in a static caravan with a single profiling bed as well as a standard double bed and 2 double wardrobes, and 4 USB charging points. There is also a full room coverage overhead track hoist system. This room is easily reconfigured to give best access to meet your specific requirements.
