For over 40 years, Bendrigg Trust has provided adventure residential courses for over 87,000 disabled & disadvantaged people throughout the UK. We provide a range of adventurous activities, led by highly qualified & experienced Tutors, for all ages and abilities. We are constantly developing our equipment, grounds and facilities, to ensure that everyone can access everything they would like to.

The residential experience itself helps to encourage independence but we also encourage people to do as much as possible for themselves. Our tutors work with individuals throughout the course to encourage them to make their own decisions, helping them to take ownership & responsibility. Through the safe provision of adventure activities, we gently support people to face their fears and get outside their comfort zones. Often this means achieving things they may have never thought were possible. This becomes a powerful tool for personal growth during their time at Bendrigg. It is the hope that this confidence is then transferable back home making a positive impact on their daily lives.

Bendrigg Trust’s specialist facilities allow everyone to enjoy an outdoor adventure experience. Our accessible accommodation including en-suite bathrooms, profile beds and ceiling-mounted hoists cater for even the most severe and profound disabilities. The Kinross Building houses our unique climbing wall, indoor cave, sensory room, sports hall and meeting facilities. All of this situated in 15-acres of beautiful grounds between the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks.

We know that “accessibility” very much depends on peoples individual needs. When developing our accessible accommodation, we’ve listened to the people who really matter. That’s you, our clients! Onsite we have 2 seperate accommodation units –Bendrigg Lodge and Acorn House. Bendrigg Lodge building consists of a dining room, kitchen, lounge and bedrooms sleeping up to 40 guests over 3 floors. Accessible bedrooms are available on the ground and first floors, accessed via a ramp or lift. These rooms include ceiling-mounted hoists and profile beds. Acorn house is our newest accommodation unit and was completed in 2017. It can sleep up to 24 people across 10 en-suite bedrooms. It has it’s own central lounge, kitchen and dining area, as well as a games room. The special features and gorgeous views overlooking the woodlands, make it a tranquil and relaxing space for our groups.

The activities we provide during a residential are dependant on the aims for your course. For some people they just want to get away from the stress of everyday life to have lot’s of fun, for others it’s about overcoming fears to build self confidence, and for some it’s about being away from home and building their independence. We are perfectly located between the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks. With access to stunning local lakes, rivers, crags, fells and caves. We regularly take groups offsite in our accessible minibuses to experience activities such as : Canoeing, caving & climbing, Our extensive onsite facilities offer the opportunity for outdoor and indoor adventures with activities such as : Zip wire, indoor cave, progressive climbing wall, abseil & archery.

The Lake District Calvert Trust has been welcoming guests with disabilities to our dedicated centre, so that they can enjoy the benefits of outdoor activities in a safe and accessible, yet challenging environment. Although part of the Calvert Trust family, with other centres in Exmoor and Kielder, the centre in the Lake District was the first to open and retains a unique feel and approach. Set in a stunning location overlooking Bassenthwaite Lake, our main centre is fully accessible throughout, with us also having our own stables and boathouse at separate nearby locations.   We endeavour to run as many activities as possible out in the wider Lake District so that our residents also get to explore one of the most beautiful parts of the UK. Prices include fully catered accommodation (cooked breakfast, lunch and 3-course evening meal) all activities and associated transport during your stay.

Our main centre, which also houses all our catered accommodation and hydrotherapy pool, is fully accessible throughout via a combination of ramps and lifts. We can take up to 60 residents at any one time with us able to cater for profound and complex disabilities. Our rooms are mainly twins, with a few triples (single and bunk beds) and a quad room (2 singles and a bunk bed). Larger rooms are available on request or for use by large groups. Our bedrooms are all en-suite with level entry wet-room and toilet facilities. A number of the bedrooms also feature electric raisable beds which can be allocated if required. In rooms we can also place portable electric hoists, free-standing shower-chairs and medical fridges, with our intention being that with the exception of wheelchairs*, you don’t need to bring any specialist equipment.

Taking advantage of the amazing Lake District landscape, we run as many of our activities as we can away from the Centre, with all groups enjoying a variety of single and multiple instructor led activities.   Each Activity Group has a dedicated instructor with them for the duration of their stay, allowing our staff to get to know every individual and helping you make the most of your stay. Activities on our multi-activity programmes are designed by our expert instructors and take all levels of disability into account.
